Talking to Clair Ferris of Funeral Alternatives is like talking to a whirlwind; he’s a very busy man! Clair is a founder of the largest funeral home in Thurston County and is involved in numerous volunteer activities. He is a member of several chambers of commerce, the North Thurston Education Foundation, Homeless Backpacks, Rotary, and is on the Board of Directors for the Senior Action Network. And he does even more…
When Rebuilding Together Thurston County held its first Build-It Breakfast at South Sound Manor (part of the Funeral Alternatives building in Tumwater) in 2016, we didn’t realize we would be getting the services of a photographer—Clair himself—in the bargain. It was a fortuitous connection because since 2016 Clair has been at many of our events photographing the activities and events of RTTC. RTTC has been the very fortunate recipient of significant sponsorships from Funeral Alternatives of Washington for our breakfast fundraiser.
Funeral Alternatives, like many businesses, gets frequent requests for donations to good causes. Clair feels that what RTTC is doing, particularly for elderly clients needing assistance with repairs and maintenance, is worthy of their support. We are most grateful for Funeral Alternatives’ ongoing commitment!
Raised in a family where his dad owned a funeral home in Oregon, Clair has worked in the business since he was a teenager. He is the father of five children and has one son working with him. His wife, Sharon, who is co-founder of the business, retired three years ago. Sharon stays very active in her retirement by serving as the Compassionate Service Leader with their church.
Huge thanks to this Good Samaritan who makes our community a better place!
