Fix It With Rebuilding Together Thurston County

When something in your home breaks and you fix it, isn’t it a great feeling of accomplishment? Finding instructions online (or maybe even reading the instructions that came with the item!), going to the hardware store to get parts and supplies, and then putting together the brawn, muscle and ingenuity to get the job done is really satisfying. Your home is restored to its safe, comfortable and livable condition.

What do you do and where do you turn if you don’t have the know-how, money, physical ability, or other resources to make home repairs?

Rebuilding Together Thurston County (RTTC) has been helping low income homeowners safely remain in their homes for over 16 years.

Rebuilding Together Thurston County (RTTC) has been helping low income homeowners safely remain in their homes for over 16 years. RTTC is all about helping homeowners in need with repairs and ADA modifications when the homeowners can’t afford to do them.

Typical Rebuilding projects include building wheelchair ramps; installing grab bars and handrails; repairing plumbing leaks and water damaged floors; replacing broken stairs; and repairing hot water tanks and furnaces. To qualify for help, homeowners must be low income and have a disability, or be a senior citizen, military veteran, or a family with small children and plan on remaining in the home for at least two more years.

RTTC is all about helping people in our community stay and thrive in their homes. Imagine how great the sense of accomplishment is when you fix it for someone who can’t?!

How does Rebuilding Together Thurston County make such a dramatic and needed impact in our community? Our enthusiastic and skilled volunteers as well as our contractor partners work together to help our homeowners in need. Our volunteers complete repair projects, train new volunteers, provide office help and even fundraise! RTTC has some great volunteers and sometimes needs part-time employees as well. Right now, we need a Project Manager to do site inspections, simple repair projects and to coordinate more involved projects with our volunteers and contractors.

So far in 2019, RTTC has helped over 40 homeowners live in safe and healthy homes by completing repairs and ADA modifications, with more in process. The impact to homeowners in need is immeasurable and preserves low income housing as well. It is much more affordable to keep people in their homes than to move them into other housing – low income housing is a challenge in every community.

RTTC welcomes your support through Build It Breakfast participation, company established work teams and volunteers for Rebuilding Day, assistance with critical repairs, office help and monetary support. We build collaborative partnerships which improve the lives of those living in Thurston County.
